COMMUNITY FAQ:

Why is the Google Cloud Security Community moving platforms?

We determined that a dedicated and more focused platform would enhance our ability to support your cloud security needs. The new more modern platform meets our requirements to better support you and is designed to reduce clutter, improve discussion quality, centralize resources, while providing a more security focused lead approach.

Community Structure Updates

We've reorganized and restructured a bit. Like you would when you move to a new home. We’ve updated our structure, design, programs and more. You’ll also notice, the content from Tips & Resources and Articles and Information all have new homes. See below for more information.

Q: What's New?

A: We took your feedback from last year (thank you to all that participated) about what you like and what content you want to see, and we're putting it into action. Your ideas are helping us make the community better.

  • Dark Mode is Here! We've upgraded to dark mode. It's not just for looks—it helps reduce eye strain for those long hours, helps you focus better, makes alerts stand out, and might even help you sleep better after work.
  • New, Simpler Layout Our new design combines different areas to make it easier to find what you need and improve your overall experience.
  • Better Forum Collaboration We're combining related discussion and products spaces to better streamline content making it easier for you to work together, share knowledge, and connect with other users

Q: What Forums are changing?

A: To make our forums even better and easier to use, we're combining a few spaces so you can get your questions answered in one spot.

  • SIEM & SOAR Forums:  Both forums will merge into the Google Security Operations forum to reflect the evolution of our products.
  • Attack Surface Management Forum: This forum is merging with Google Threat Intelligence to align with the product offering and create a better experience for your engagement.
  • Mandiant Threat Intel Forum: For those of you that had access, we are retiring the Mandiant Threat Intel Forum. All content will be moved and future discussions will take place in the Google Threat Intelligence forum.

Q: Where did the content from Tips & Resources go?

A: All Tips & Resources content (Onboarding Guides, Adoption Guides, Best Practices, and Learning & Documentation) is being moved to the Resource Center, your new home for all things related to learning, how to guides, best practices, tutorials, blogs, webinars, podcasts and more. You can find the new Resource Center linked in the navigation bar and on the home page. Be sure to bookmark these sections when we go live!

Q: Where can I find the content from Articles & Information?

A: The content from Articles & Information (Community Blog, News & Announcements, Security Podcast and Community Resources) all have new homes. See below for more information.

Q: How do I access the Community Blog?

A: Our Community Blog is a top destination, and for good reason! Its expert-written learning articles help you master Google Cloud Security tools, offering useful insights and use cases to achieve your desired outcomes. You can now find it in the Resource Center. Be sure to subscribe to this space!

Q: Where can I find Security Podcast?

A: Security Podcast is now being merged with our latest Webinar content to create a new section, Webinars & Podcasts. You’ll be able to find this section in the Resource Center, your new learning center.

Q: Where is Community Resources?

A: You can now find Community Resources under Welcome to Community under Getting Started. Getting Started will offer you a space to share your Community Feedback as well as access all the resources you need.

Q: Where can I find Learning & Documentation?

A: Learning & Documentation is now available in the Resource Center

Profile & Subscription Changes

Q: What happened to my profile picture/Avatar?

A: Not all the profile pictures/Avatars will make the jump. We understand the inconvenience and apologies to any of you that experience this. Think of this as an opportunity to start fresh, take a new selfie, get creative, IF you want to express yourself in a new way! Or it’s as simple as taking your existing picture/Avatar and uploading it to your new profile.

Q: What happens with my badges?

A: We're thrilled to confirm that your hard-earned achievements will be transferred to our new platform! You will notice one little change in our badges. We no longer will include “like” badges. But you will receive points based on your likes. So keep giving that thumbs up!

Q: How do I manage my email subscriptions?

A: You can manage all of your forum subscriptions from your user profile settings. Navigate to your profile, select the "Settings,” and you will be able to customize your notification preferences for different categories and topics.

Q: Why did we remove the ability to private message between users?

A: We want to make sure all conversations that could help or be interesting to other security practitioners stay visible in our community forums. This way, more members can learn from and contribute to these valuable discussions, making our community an even better resource for everyone.

Support & Feedback

Q: I have questions or feedback about the new forums. Where should I post them?

A: We want your feedback! The best place to ask questions, report issues, or share your thoughts about the new forum structure is Community Feedback, located under Community in the navigation bar. Let’s build this Community together!

Q: What if I have a different type of question?

A: If you have questions that are not related to forum feedback (e.g., specific community account issues), please reach out to the team by emailing gcs-community@google.com.

We hope this guide provides clarity and gets you just as excited as we are for our new platform! Come join us on July 22nd, make yourself at home, and let's continue to learn, share, and secure the cloud together!
